Job Function
The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals.  All activities must conform to organisational guidelines and standards and to all legal requirements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Reviews prescriptions issued to assure accuracy and counsels customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Determines formulae and ingredients needed compounds medications, using standard formulae and processes such as weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.
  • Directs Pharmacy Technicians engaged in mixing, packaging and labelling pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Maintains pharmacy database and enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost.
  • Instructs reporting staff on matters pertaining to pharmacy.
  • Advises Pharmacy Manager of expired drugs and makes recommendations for disposal.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma as accepted by the Council of the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Certificate of Registration issued by the Council of the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Authorisation from the Council of the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago to operate as a Responsible Pharmacist.
  • One (1) year experience as responsible Pharmacist.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of the statutory requirement for the receiving, storing and sale of all drugs.
  • Expert knowledge in the application of prescription and over the counter drugs.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to ask the right questions to address Customer concerns.
  • Able to multitask and prioritise duties and responsibilities.
  • Able to plan and organise activities effectively.
